Your Beat Dance Programme
'Information given was useful and you could take straight into the classroom. Ideas were good and easy to understand for non-dancers!'
Teacher attending CPD Day

Your Beat aimed to increase dance participation as an informal physical activity through promoting pathways and developing new opportunities on an annual basis. The specific aim of the service this year was to produce a programme to be developed by young people for young people to increase physical activity levels in 11-18 year olds.

Working with Fair Oak Academy and Staffordshire University Academy students, a dance concept was created and developed by the students, which was branded ‘Your Beat’. Sessions ran after-school from January – March, and a series of dance workshops were held in April at the feeder primary schools.

Feedback from working with teaching staff highlighted that there were also concerns in delivering dance within schools as part of the new curriculum that was to be introduced in September 2014. As part of the Your Beat project, a CPD training day was also held for teaching staff to address this issue, and on the day a tool kit and DVD were provided as supporting resources for teachers to use.
