Changing Places: Mill Street and Beecroft Bridges
Description: The underpass at Mill Street and Beecroft act as the pedestrian entry points into Cannock town centre and were in desperate need of repair and a makeover. Their appearance provided people with the feeling of being unsafe. Obviously this is not the impression Cannock Chase wished to evoke. Rejeuvinating the spaces needed a re-tile, and provided over a 150 artists from the district to be involved. Amateur and traditional styles to professional and contemporary images were applied to the surface of the tiles, resulting in a trompe d'oeil effect gallery space! Community ownership has enabled the underpass to be used more by all, reducing any negative usage of the space.
